Cooper West ponderings

Redirect to get back on track

Apr 29, 2012 | Writing Update

One story I really love but put on hold with everything else is one with the working title of Hogan’s Heroes (which is a pretty lame title and probably trademarked by the TV series but that’s okay, it’s a working title. For the record, it has nothing to do with a POW camp) and I was glad to put it aside because it was being a dick about getting written. As it happens, you know.

I opened it up yesterday and took a look at it for the first time in months and realized what the major problems were that had been stymieing me so hard. In short, I was trying too hard to push the romantic tension for the characters and ended up making one lead a total jerk for no reason while introducing extraneous plot elements.

It’s nothing that can’t be fixed by some ruthless editing and rewrites, and quite frankly, I’m relieved. I had really thought it was going to be a lost cause.

This puts Hogan’s Heroes back on top of the “to be finished soon” list. My weredog novel The Protector is at 60k words with probably another 10k or 20k to go. I have about three other strong M/M stories in the “kinda almost started” stage and two M/F/M stories in the “well along but nowhere near finished” stage and…yeah, enough to keep me busy!

And that makes me SO VERY HAPPY. *grins*
